Williamsport Little League World Series Field Dimensions

The dimensions of the Williamsport Little League Field are 225 feet for both left and right fields. In 2006, the distance for a home run was extended by 20 feet.

The field for baseball has a diamond-shaped layout, which is the focal point of the match. This diamond includes four bases, with a pitching mound situated centrally.

The pitcher throws the ball from this mound, and the batter hits the ball from the home plate.

In Little League games, there is a foul line that extends from the home plate to the first and third bases, and continues to the outfield.

This line is crucial for determining the type of play. For instance, if a ball in the air crosses inside the foul pole, the run is deemed void, but if it touches the pole, the ball is considered in play.

In Major League Baseball (MLB) stadiums, the distance from the pitcher’s mound to the home plate is 60 ft 6 inches.

However, in softball and other youth leagues, this distance is shorter. Also, the seating capacity in MLB stadiums is larger compared to other leagues due to a higher number of supporters.

It is about two-thirds the size of a standard MLB stadium, yet, it is constructed on a 72-acre piece of land, allowing it to host over 40,000 people on a crowded day. The stadium also installed lights in 1992, enhancing the experience of night games.

The seating areas of the stadium are categorized into two main sections;

  1. Multiple levels of seating behind the foul territory,
  2. Spacious berms located in the fair territory. Initially, the seats are occupied, and then, the berms are filled by those wanting to catch home run balls.

The record for the highest attendance at the ballpark was set on August 29, 2015, during a match between Lewisberry and Pearland. A staggering 45,176 spectators witnessed Lewisberry clinch victory with a 3-2 win.

According to the standard Little League rules, the minimum distance from the home plate to the outfield fences should be 200 feet, and it can extend up to 275 feet.

However, hitting home runs is not a primary focus for young children because of their physical capabilities.

Children aged 3-6 play T-ball with each other, with the main objective being recreation. If they are listed on the roster, the young players will participate in a complete game. Additionally, no player will be ruled out, and only foam bats are permitted for the 3-4 age group.
